I was putting clothes in my dryer and found that it turned on but there was no heat from the dryer. I would run a cycle and the clothes were not dry and still soaking wet. I unplugged the dryer from power and checked all the parts with my OHM meter. I tested the thermal fuse, the thermostats, the wiring, and the element. I found the element to be the reason why the dryer did not get heat. The heating element had a break in the coil which indicates it is faulty. See picture below8230.

When replacing the heating element on your Whirlpool dryer, buy an OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer heating element. If you buy a cheaper element for your Whirlpool dryer it will most likely not last more than 6 months. However it will vary. We recommend using an OEM dryer heating element as it is made with thicker coil wire and will last longer. When ordering the element, look for the Whirlpool 8220Factory Certified Parts8221 sticker.

When troubleshooting why your dryer will not heat, check to see if any coils on the heating element are broken. If coils are broken, the element needs to be replaced. If no coils are broken, use an Ohm meter on the two leads of the element and test for continuity. If no continuity, the heating element is faulty and needs to be replaced. Testing the heating element with a multimeter will indicate if the element is faulty and causing the no heating issue. See the video below to show you exactly how to test a dryer heating element if you have trouble using an Ohm meter.

The door switch cuts the dryer off when you open the door. First unplug the dryer then take the lint filter out and remove the two screws that are under the filter. Then pull the top forward and lift up on it. The top should lift up and once the top is up you should be able to see the door switch. Now after making sure the door is closed, remove the wires from the switch. Then using your ohmmeter ,check to see if you have continuity between the two terminals. If not, the switch is bad and needs replacing. Door switches can be purchased at AppliancePartsPros.com.

The motor can cause Whirlpool dryers not to run. Motors can be hard to check and I dont recommend trying to do so. But if the motor hums when you turn the dryer on, then cuts off after 30 seconds or so. This normally means the motor is bad and needs replacing. However if there is something in the fan blade blocking it from turning this may cause the same problem. So check this before replacing the motor. Motors can be purchased at AppliancePartsPros.com.
